About Tabatskuri Lake

Tabatskuri is a deep volcanic lake located at nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by striking, treeless mountains. The lake’s deep, cold waters make it an excellent habitat for trout and other cold-water species.

Fishing Tips

  • Deep Water Tactics: The lake drops off steeply in places, reaching a maximum depth of over 40 meters. Deep spinning and bottom fishing are effective.
  • Cold Water: The water remains cold even in mid-summer, making it a great retreat during hot spells. Trout are most active in the early morning and late evening.

Access

The most scenic route is via the Tskhratskaro Pass from Bakuriani, but this road is typically only passable in summer and early autumn with a sturdy vehicle. The alternative route via Akhalkalaki is longer but generally more reliable.
